Change Your Space
Conscious Living Environments
In a consultation, it is my intention to assist you in creating conscious space by bringing balance, beauty, and meaning into your environment. In the process of exploring and evaluating the space, we can identify how to create a supportive environment that better reflects who you are and what you want in your life.
Below I have described my philosphy regarding the concept of creating a conscious space, which is what I believe is needed for us to receive energy and nurturing from our living envirnoments.
Energy Flow
I am inspired by Feng Shui’s connection with Nature and the flow of energy through the Five Life forming Elements of Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. By noticing how Nature creates its cycles of seasons, we can feel the essence of its natural flow of energy. Within each season there is a flow as it begins and later as it transforms to the next season. All of Nature is interacting with the changing season and the environmental shifts that occur in this process.
And so it is with our own personal energy as well. There is a flow to it that interacts and interconnects with our environment. It is through this interaction that we are ultimately affected by our environment.
The air that we breath is one way to think about it in this manner. We inhale it for its life giving oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. The plants around us take in carbon dioxide and create oxygen. There is a beautiful life giving interconnection that is shared in this process.
Achieving Balance
Creating a balanced natural flow of energy within our environment is the essence of Feng Shui. To repeat Nature’s flow of energy, the natural flow of energy moving harmoniously, is what we want to accomplish in our environment to create balance and support for us on our life’s journey.
A basic principle of Feng Shui is that when our environment is balanced, a harmonious space is created and it has a positive influence in all areas of our lives. Balancing of our environment can be accomplished by placement or positioning of furniture or objects as well as working with the Five Life Forming Elements so that energy flow is attained.
De-cluttering to Re-energize
Another aspect of creating balance in our environment is to release ourselves from clutter. When there are items in our space that no longer actively serve us, they have lost their life for us. These items actually drain us rather than give us energy. To help determine if items no longer serve us, we can ask ourselves a few basic questions. Do we Love it? Does it provide a needed function or is it useful to us NOW? Do we honestly believe that we will need it in the near future? Being honest with ourselves as we ask these questions can help push us through that urge to hang onto things to releasing these items to recycling, donating or selling them.
As a result of letting go of these items, a wonderful feeling of freedom is experienced and our space opens up for new opportunities to come into our life. We become re-energized without all of these lifeless items draining us of our precious energy!

Nature’s Five Life Forming Elements for Creating Wholeness
Working with the qualities and essences of the Five Elements brings forth energies that support us as well as create physical beauty in our environment. Integrating Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal can be accomplished by adding the Element’s shape, color or itself to the space. There are many sustainable products that easily represent the Elements, which add the natural beauty of nature to our environment as well as bring forth our own commitment to the sustainability of our planet. When all Five Elements are represented in our space, there is a sense of wholeness or completion that is experienced, which brings forth a sense of balance.
Integrating Beauty and Meaning
Another significant piece is the integration of beauty and meaning as we see it from our own personal vantage point. This sustains us as it is part of creating space as a sanctuary rather than from a functional standpoint. To have beauty and meaning surrounding us in our environment is life giving as it feeds our body, mind and spirit! We need to have our space reflect our sense of beauty as it is our way of communicating our personal preferences and values. And when this occurs, there is deeper meaning in our space. It is the meaning that creates a conscious space.
Creating a Conscious Space
Why is a conscious space important? Because we are aware of the deeper meaning of our choices in creating our space and these choices reflect our values. When we align our inner self with our environment, it becomes alive. It becomes living. It is a living environment reflecting the who of who we are. When we walk in the door of our home or office that is based on this principle of our values, we actually feel that we are Coming Home! ! This is a space we can work in, play in or rest in. It is our sanctuary! It is our personal oasis from the world!
